About Shane Dawson
Shane Dawson was one of the first people to become famous on YouTube. His career moved from comedy sketches to podcasts, films and long-form documentary series.
Video one
Dawson began making videos in 2008, at 19. His earliest uploads were later deleted, and the version shown here, "KERMIT THE FROG & ME", is a copy re-uploaded to an archive channel in 2024.
The breakthrough
His early sketches, playing original characters and celebrity impressions, earned hundreds of millions of views within two years. He later built a new audience with conspiracy-theory videos and multi-part documentary series about other YouTubers.
Today
Some of his early sketches were later criticised for offensive content, including racial stereotypes, and in 2020 he apologised for them. He has posted far less since then.
