Turning air into alcohol
Nigel Braun, known as NileRed, makes chemistry videos that are both beautiful and surprising, like turning disposable gloves into grape soda.
His first public video, "Making the Pharaoh's Serpent" from March 2014, shows a classic reaction where a small pellet grows into a long, snake-like column of ash.
Braun studied biochemistry at McGill University. His patient, carefully filmed experiments explain both the theory and the purpose of each step, which earned him a large audience. His goal, he says, is to capture "the natural beauty of chemistry".
NileRed releases long, ambitious projects on the main channel, with more experimental work on his second channel, NileBlue.
